The Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant (está grávida), St James' Palace has confirmed. The
news follows months of speculation over her supposed bump and numerous "no comments" responses from officials at Clarence House.
"Their
Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of
Cambridge is expecting a baby," a statement from St James' Palace read
this afternoon.
"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales,
The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are
delighted with the news."
The Duchess has been
admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in central London with very acute morning
sickness eher she is expected to stay for a "several days" and
"will require a period of rest thereafter".
The 30-year-old is
thought to be in her early stages of pregnancy and has not yet passed the
12-week point. The palace announcement was prompted by her medical condition.
When the baby is born, he
or she will be third in line to the British throne. Last year, the rules of
succession were amended to ensure that sons no longer take precedence as
heir - regardless of age. The royal couple got married in April 2011, an event that was watched by an estimated three billion
people around the world. Both the Duke and Duchess have spoken about their
desire to have children before. In May, Prince William told US interviewer
Katie Couric that he and his wife were "looking forward to having a family", before adding in September that he
would like two children.
